If you can’t get to the side of the road, you are safest if you just remain in the car, try not to panic, and call for help. Attempting to cross a busy highway is extremely dangerous.
If you feel that traffic is lighter and you can safely make it out of the middle of the road, make sure you and any passengers are safely out of harm’s way before putting the car in park and moving to safety.
